Wigner Research Centre for Physics

The Wigner Research Centre for Physics (Wigner RCP) is the largest physics research institution of the Hungarian Research Network, with about 200 researchers. It comprises two institutes, the Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics, and the Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics. Its core activity is basic research ranging from solid state physics, and optics, through high energy particle and heavy ion physics to quantum optics and quantum information. The Wigner RCP is the consortium leader of the Quantum Information National Laboratory of Hungary (QNL) which aims at fostering research and innovation in the field of quantum technologies related to quantum information. The Wigner RCP has a strong history of international cooperation, including various research-oriented, as well as application-oriented EU and national projects.

Main tasks in the project

Coordinates Task 6.1 (Benchmarks and roadmap), which serves as a liaison between WP5 and WP7 with the goal of enabling further systemic roadmapping and developing relevant benchmarks for different levels of quantum processing tasks.

Coordinates Task 7.5 (Enabling techniques) with the purpose of developing various enabling techniques (e.g., connection to HPC, efficient error mitigation implementations) for the successful operation of quantum computers developed in OpenSuperQPlus.

Wigner RCP is also involved in developing a quantum-algorithm test suite for near-term quantum computers as well as scalable error mitigation techniques. In addition, Wigner RCP provides assistance with implementation of the full software stack of OpenSuperQPlus within WP5.
